Chad's Story
Many children have a favorite stuffed animal or doll growing up. For Chad Carr, it was a stuffed dog given to him when he was just a year old. The dog had no significant meaning at the time - it was just another stuffed animal - but Chad fell in love with it! He was so taken with this puppy that his parents, Jason and Tammi, bought another to ensure he would never be without.

The pair of dogs — Frederick and Barley — became much more significant after he was diagnosed with Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma (DIPG) in September of 2014. The stuffed animals acted as a comfort through grueling treatments and while away in New York City for clinical trials.

After Chad passed away on November 23, 2015 - just after turning five - his parents chose to send Frederick with him and keep Barley at home. The stuffed dog has been a piece of Chad that his family has snuggled and slept with to feel close to the little angel they miss so much.

A portion of proceeds from the sale of this Peaceful Puppy will go toward The ChadTough Foundation to fund research and awareness for DIPG. As your child finds comfort in this stuffed animal, please take comfort in knowing you have made a difference in finding a cure.

DIPG
The mission of The ChadTough Foundation is to fund research and raise awareness for pediatric brain tumors with an emphasis on Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma (DIPG).

Cancer is the number one disease killer of children in America. Brain tumors are the leading cause of cancer-related deaths in children under 14, and DIPG is the leading cause of death from pediatric brain cancer.

DIPG is a devastating, aggressive brain tumor. Unfortunately, DIPG remains incurable. Its prognosis is bleak: median age at diagnosis is 6-7 years, with median survival of 9 months. 90% of children will die from the disease within 2 years of initial diagnosis, with less than 1% surviving after 5 years.

But there is hope for DIPG! As surgical biopsy techniques become safer and as more parents become aware of the value of donating tissue postmortem, researchers are finally getting access to DIPG tissue. After decades of nothing, there are discoveries being made about DIPG almost on a monthly basis.

Research requires funding. With only 4% of the taxpayer-funded National Cancer Institute’s (NCI) annual budget directed toward pediatric cancer (ALL cancers, not just brain cancer), the majority of funding for DIPG research comes from family foundations like The ChadTough Foundation. We are proud to have Peaceful Puppy helping to raise those needed funds!
